A Young Musician’s Education Program
The Jazz Studio (TJS) is a young people’s program and a standing committee of the Mobile Big Band Society, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. TJS faculty will conduct the development, management and execution of an on-going Jazz music education program for intermediate level, aspiring Jazz artists throughout greater Mobile.
The Jazz Studio classes will begin in June 2016 and will be held bi-weekly, to include hands-on music instruction on the fundamentals of jazz improvisation, as well as historical presentations about the legends of jazz and contemporary artists.
The Jazz Studio program is designed to provide students with the maximum impact experience using our “3E’s” approach:
- Educating students in the traditional jazz curriculum.
- Engaging students through audio/visual presentations, studying the musical arrangements of past and present jazz and big band era artists.
- Exposing students to live performances, travel, mentorship, jazz camps, master classes, and music history presentations.
Participating students must have their own instruments, be able to read music and perform at an intermediate level (at a minimum, students must be able to play basic scales).
Participation in The Jazz Studio requires a completed registration form, a formal audition and placement process and parental consent for participation in activities and regional field trips.
The Jazz Studio will provide opportunities for students to perform throughout the greater Mobile community.
The Jazz Studio staff instructors and master class leaders are well educated, seasoned professionals, possessing a wealth of knowledge and experience.
The Jazz Studio is dedicated to the education, appreciation and preservation of jazz as America’s only original music art form.
